How to Make Your Makeup Last

Beauty products in dessert

Feeling like a hot mess? Save face with products that can handle the heat. (See shopping information on the following slides.)

Start with Primer

"The pigments in your makeup shift when you get hot and sweaty," says Ni'Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist in Woodland Park, New Jersey. "A silicone-based primer absorbs the extra oil and locks everything down." Smooth it over your moisturizer.

Wear Less Foundation

For a lighter touch, apply a liquid or cream formula with a rounded sponge. "Press against your skin to get a sheer, natural look," says Sarah Tanno, celebrity makeup artist. Prefer mineral powder? Invest in a blending blush to keep the finish extra-light.

Conceal with Care

Blend a full-coverage concealer below your eyes and in the corners to hide dark circles but don't go past the outer eye area. "It'll migrate when you sweat and highlight your crow's-feet," says Laura Geller, a makeup artist in New York City.

Swap Eyeshadows

Ditch your dark powder eyeshadow for a long-wearing cream in a fresh summer palette. "Use your pinkie to blend a sheer wash from lashline to crease," says Geller.
